: "Please be sure to be running Pedia version 5.1 or higher on your Mac."
One request: Dropbox or iCloud sync.
I’ve got nearly 20 years’ data stored across the desktop apps that this app syncs with, and everything continues to work fantastically.
I’ve tried about a half-dozen apps for cataloging my movies and music, and this is by far the most comprehensive and flexible. Unfortunately, I’m now having sync problems. Pocketpedia syncs just fine with the desktop CDPedia app, but it no longer syncs with the DVDPedia app. It’s really a shame, because otherwise it’s just about perfect.
cannot recognize any scanned ISBNs - worthless
iPhone app now longer syncing with Mac App.
Based on the good reviews I bought this. Of the first 5 movies I tried to add by scanning their barcodes, the only one it found was Suckerpunch on BluRay – but nothing Glee, Fantastic Beasts Crimes of Grindelwald, or other not-exactly-rare discs. Nor did searching the text “Crimes of Grindelwald” bring any search results! Looks like I’d have to type in everything by hand. If I wanted to do that I’d still be using Delicious Library 2 on my Mac. Camera scanner is very slow, too.
I like Bruji’s products, especially on the desktop. They are to be lauded for continuing to support this older iOS app (just as they do their evolving suite for desktop). What I miss in Pocketpedia is plain ease of use. Ergonomically, it would be a massive improvement if we could flick through, say, movies without having to resort to only controlling the app via the tiny thumbnails. In short, let us move from entry to entry by using the entry details (on the right side of the screen) or, more ideally, the larger image itself. Too much fussy tappity-tap is required right now for comfortable portable use. Support for dark screen use is also a must.
Pocketpedia itself is solid - does what it needs to do, what you’d expect. It’s strength lies in the fact that it is a single companion apps for multiple inventory applications. I use Bookpedia, Gamepedia, CDpedia and DVDpedia. Pocketpedia syncs with all of them and provides access to all within a single application. Just what I was looking for. I walked away from the Collectorz (CLZ) series of applications when they went to a subscription model. Bruji provided me with a solid replacement without a subscription.
It has been a year since the app has been updated and still does not support the new screen layouts for the iPhone X line. It’s frustrating to look at my collection on my phone. That on top of still having to manually sync with my computer and no iCloud or Dropbox support has me seriously considering a new app after using the desktop app for over 10 years now.
... version 3 doesn’t syncronize with new version 5.6.1, please advise
This app is a great companion to the desktop app however there are several things that it lacks. - adding games will only search the one database instead of giving you options from other websites. - syncing is a nice feature, but having to do it manually every time seems old school - adding some different view options would be a great help as well.
I LOVE how I can easily edit everything to suit me. The borrowed and loaned stuff is great too. BUT it crashes 9/10 times after adding something to it. It does however save what you put in before it crashed, so minor annoyance at worst. If this could be fixed it would be a five star app for sure.
It's an ok app just not worth the money I mean most of the books I have can't be found on doghouse search which is a shame since I have to add them manually. Defeats the point of getting this app. Other than that it's an average library app. Not worth $3.99.
No wonder it can't find anything. I can't believe how much money I wasted on their Mac apps. Back to Libib.
The database for scanning barcodes seems extremely limited. Less then 20% of my collection was found.
This is a good app that helps keep track of your music collection. Also, you can search whether you have a particular song in your CD collection; however, the search function is very basic compared to the desktop (Mac) version. Specifically, you can only search by the song title only; in fact, it has to be worded EXACTLY, meaning, you must include ALL words in the song title, and in the correct order. On the desktop (Mac) version, you can search using just keywords, in any order, and most importantly, you can search using a combination of words in the song title AND artist, which comes in handy when, say, you want to know how many times an artist's song appears across your CD collection. Lastly, if you simply want to search how many times an artist (no particular song) appears in your collection the app only displays CD's solely by that artist only, but not any compilations that may have that particular artist on it, whereas, the desktop (Mac) version does this effortlessly. Until the search feature matches the desktop version (if ever) I'll keep the rating at its present state.
Used to enjoy reviewing my collection from iPad, but now it is out of date with my iMac database. It pretends to sync, but no changes occur. Fix it please!
Nice app and a great companion to the Mac version but too many button touches are needed to add a book with the camera. I takes three touches on completely different areas of the screen to scan a bar code. Only one button should be required. And I agree with other reviews that it needs iCloud syncing. But otherwise I like it.
This app has great features if you only have very recent music. Not worth the money if you have to manually input all of the information because the database is so incomplete.
On the plus side, I’m happy to be able to sync with Bookpedia so I have my book list on the go to avoid buying duplicates. On the minus side, there are some areas where the app needs work: 1. Syncing is manual rather than automatic and continuous like Apple’s apps with iCloud. 2. The menu for delete, edit, etc. is under an icon like Apple’s share icon, which is confusing. 3. There is no way to search within my own library.
I use the desktop DVDpedia app and have grown to like its versatile sorting features. So when I saw Pocketpedia I thought it would be just as versatile. Pocketpedia syncs very well with DVDpedia but you can ONLY sort by movie title and director. In my case I would love the option to sort by Collection ID or just any other field populated by the desktop app. More sorting and customization options would make it very powerful. Also add more database search options other than Doghouse. It does not seem to difficult to add that ability next update.
I have three of the 'pedia's and this syncs flawlessly with them. I wanted the ability to see collections on the go, and this does that in style. Adding to the collection on the go is easy with barcode scanning.
One request: Dropbox or iCloud sync.
I really like the idea of this app but it has issues with syncing. When I add something on the iPhone or iPad and do a sync it will lose any cover art that was associated with the entry. The search via doghouse using the isbn or upc codes never finds an item but entering the name manually works many of those times. I have all of the pedia apps on the Mac and they are great and get much more information then this app can provide. They need to work on the search and sync issues to make this work the price.
Always know what you own already - no more duplicate purchases of CDs or books (or DVDS or games). Help locate your media. Can't remember the author? you can keyword search. This software lets you carry your libraries on your phone and iPad, syncing with your laptop. Easily move things you donate to keep a record of gifts. Keep track of things to loan to friends - you can even send them email to nudge them to return something.
What a waste of $4! Nowhere in the description did it say that this app ONLY works with Version 5 of the pedias. I'm still using Version 4 pedias & this app can't even import the databases. Disappointed doesn't even begin to cover it.
Have been using the desktop software for several years...very good app. However, this iPad app is mediocre at best. As another reviewer stated, it looks good at first site but after using it, especially with a sizable collection, you'll quickly notice it's mediocrity. It took 2 years after the first iPad was introduced to get this app and since then the company has only released very minor updates with most of those being bug fixes. You don't even have the ability to view your collection in grid form! How can something as necessary and elementary as that be overlooked with it being 2 years late to the game. There's no ability to add movies or edit directly on the iPad (something that I was immediately able to do once I went with Collectorz). As a once-loyal customer, I got tired of the lack of updates and sub-par app and moved to a better competitor!
I love this app because it allows me to track my library of over 4000 books. I frequently use it in bookstores to see if I already own the book I'm looking at! It works great in conjunction with the desktop version. I'm not sure how useful it would be without that. I would rate it as 5 stars if: It had iCloud sync and You could edit entries from the app. I like to include date purchased, price paid, and date read. For almost 9 months, developers have said that editing was coming. Please complete this task. Library needs to be expanded. I'm not sure why books I find easily on Goodreads cannot be found here. I have been using this program for years so please continue to improve it. Bookpedia really is one of my favorite apps!
It's easy to get all the basics up and running and create something that looks good at first glance. It's when you use it and start getting into details that this falls over. Syncing worked once for me, now it's broken. If you just want to scroll through a library of many hundreds (in my case about 2,000) titles then that thin strip down the left hand side of my iPad to view everything in just doesn't cut it. Because the wonderful App Store forces me to buy without trying I'm writing this review to help others. I would not purchase this until maybe another version or two has ironed out the bugs.
The first five titles I tried came up with nothing. So, I spent $4.00 so I could keep track of 17% of my music. A way to manually enter CDs would be nice.
I was impressed with Bookpedia’s Mac app, (see my review in the Mac App Store) and I was anxious to add the companion Pocketpedia iPhone app. I liked the idea of being able to sync my data to my phone and having all my info handy to refer to while on the go. I downloaded the iPhone app as soon as I had my Bookpedia data in order. Pros - - Syncing from my desktop to the iPhone was simple and without a hitch every time. - Important data from my desktop version was available to me on my phone, just as I expected. - Everything looked pretty much as good as it does on my computer, very cool. Cons - - Not all desktop features are available on the ‘portable’ version. - Navigation was sometimes tedious. When tapping on a library folder you view a book list. Tapping an individual book shows the data that you had entered for that particular book. It has a cover-art button and a detail button to view additional info for that book. To browse to the next or previous book in your list (in all views), you need to back out to your main list and tap the next book to view the information for that book. A ‘finger-swipe’ to move to the next or previous book in your collection, from any view, would feel more natural than going back and forth to the main list to select each book. Pocketpedia is not a bad app by any means, it is well designed, looks great, and intuitive to use. And it’s very convenient to have my book data handy when book shopping, essentially what I was looking for. But for the $4 price, I found it lacking some bang for the buck.
If you have one of the desktop pedias, this is a must-have .. Read all my reviews on crosswa.lk ..
What a great app. Syncing a large database with hi-res artwork was fast and easy. App is super fast and nimble! Really, just a great job! Even without the wish list items below, this is a great app! Wish List: 1. iCloud Sync 2. Improved Search: Make the DogPedia search less prevalent, and the search my library more prevalent; allow control of which fields to search (all, title, director, actor, tag) 3. Improved Sorting: options for date 4. Ability to build a filter/search on the fly: blu ray, 3 stars or greater, Clint Eastwood, award winning
This is getting there but I want to be able to scan my movies though my phone to add to my library. I would love to be able to scan a movie at a store to know if I have it already.
It has been a long wait for this mobile app to come out, let me tell you! One that would work with my Mac app DVDPedia. I have nearly 2000 movie titles I'm organizing! Of those titles, I have a web export list for movies sorted by: name, release year, and date added to my collection. In addition to that I have a documentaries list, an unwatched list (by each date and name), a list of titles "to" watch (each by name and date again), as well as a few other fun lists, (Christmas movies, Hawaiian movies, movies with soandso actor or by soandso director, etc.). This amounted to "SEVERAL" web exports but even more concerning was that in total it generated nearly 20,000 files. This took approximately 6 hours to load onto my FTP site so I could access it via Safari on my mobile devices, (no matter how big or small your data to upload is, the sheer number of files will choke an upload). It was quite a chore! I even went into the HTML code of the export templates and modified how the data was shown on the pages immensely. It was also quite a bit of work... Fi-i-i-i-i-i-i-i-i-inally, I no longer need to do any of that. The ability to edit and manage the database from the mobile devices will be nice when added, but frankly, I will take the app as it is now with a great big CHEER and easily give this a rating of FIVE STARS!!!
Well, I would've loved this app, except for the fact that I cant use it! I just bought an app that I cannot use, all because it didn't mention that I needed a higher version of Bookpedia to use this. I hope the next update will support older versions too.
Launching this program for the first time yields an almost completely blank screen, with only a "Collections" button and a "Doghouse Search" field at the top. Where's the "Welcome to Pocketpedia! Here's how to get started..." greeting? What am I supposed to do here? Tapping Collections brought me to another nearly blank screen, but at least this one told me I had to sync with my Mac via Wi-Fi. (What, no iCloud?) After jumping through a bunch of hoops that included a $12 update to my copy of DVDpedia, I managed to make that work, but it was all guesswork on my part--no help from Bruji. This app's library search field is hidden unless I scroll the list of titles to the very top. When there are a lot of titles (as in my case), that's a major nuisance. In an app whose sole purpose is to let me find things in my collection, the search capability should NEVER be hidden! On the other hand, the "Doghouse search" field is always visible... but it brings up titles I don't own and never heard of. There's no explanation of this (or indeed, of anything else) in the Pocketpedia app, and searching Bruji's support website FAQ for 'doghouse' yields no results. How is it that an (apparently) major feature is completely undocumented? I really wanted to love this app. Goodness knows we've all waited long enough for a way to sync our Pedia collections with our iOS devices. But Pocketpedia leaves the user to stumble through setup, offers no help or explanations, and makes its key function--library search--hard to get to much of the time. I look forward to seeing these problems addressed in an update, but I can't recommend the app in its present state.
I am rearranging my CD collection right now, and having Pocketpedia handy is making my life infinitely easier. Synch with the Mac based Pedias worked flawlessly, the different sorting modes in PocketPedia are very helpful. It is well designed, fast, a joy to use.
A great addition to the Pedia family that makes the other Pedias far more useful. It's far easier to make a selection from 600+ titles by using Pocketpedia3 on a iPad than to pour over shelf after shelf of discs or even than firing up your Mac. A must for Pedia users who own an iPad, the app works beautifully, and allows you to browse your collection comfortably, displaying almost all the detail stored on your Mac in an easy to access form. I'd like a few more sort options (e.g. by genre or running time), but the app is too good the way it is to allow a nitpick to lower my rating.
Such a long wait and no iCloud sync??
It took awhile to arrive but the wait was entirely worthwhile. I have an unusually large library consisting of several thousand volumes which include reviews, synopses, and jacket images. The size of the Bookpedia application support folder on my MBP is 2.62GB, yet Pocketpedia 3 on my New iPad (third generation) opens from a cold start in seconds. Outstanding performance!
Thank you guys for this release! It has been a long wait but so worth it. Definitely worth it when u own an iPhone. i got the app today as soon as i received the email. It synced smoothly with my iPhone! Now i can go to the store and view what i have and don't have. No more buying duplicate movies! 5+ starts on my books! Thanks again for your hard work in getting this app running! -Joe-
This app does not seem to offer any additional functionality over Pedia2. So if you still have a copy of the old app, for $2.50 you will only get sync bug fixes as the new app is not a free "upgrade" for existing users.
Delicious Library refuses to get their product back onto the i device. It's one of the most commonly asked for things on their forums. I am tired of doing conversions to get it into MoviesHD and THEN into my iPad. I've got most of the Mac "Pedia" programs. Now it's time to give them the stage! Their products have always been fully supported and the company takes time to answer your questions. ALL of your questions!!
Managing hundreds and hundreds of titles, trying to remember what I'm missing but wishing I had while at the video store, not wanting any more duplicates, information about the films in my collection always at hand. . . Pocketpedia3 solves all these problems simply and elegantly - a great solution!
Finally I can stop handling spreadsheets/pdfs to review my book collection on the go (over 6000 books in bookpedia) - app syncs perfectly to iPhone and iPad - Thanks Bruji !
So excited I can finally sync everything! And over wifi!! So far, seems to be well worth the wait :) thanks for making a great product.
Been waiting for the app to be released and I was not disappointed. Syncing is a quick, single step. Having my extensive DBD and CD collection on the iPad is great. Getting CDpedia also was an unexpected bonus. Now I have the app, I can dump MoviesHD which required a multi step conversion from DVDpedia and has had a multitude of unresolved problems. Pocketpedia3 JUST WORKS!
Thank you, thank you , thank you… Have been waiting, you know how long. Downloaded, installed and Synced without any problem. I gave it 5 starts because it works perfectly. I'll use it for a few days and report back if necessary...
I can now stop creating a pdf of my DVDpedia library and use this great app. It sync's with your installed application on your computer quickly and easily. This makes staying up-to-date very easy.
