Okay, could be better...
I was impressed with Bookpedia’s Mac app, (see my review in the Mac App Store) and I was anxious to add the companion Pocketpedia iPhone app. I liked the idea of being able to sync my data to my phone and having all my info handy to refer to while on the go. I downloaded the iPhone app as soon as I had my Bookpedia data in order.
Pros -
- Syncing from my desktop to the iPhone was simple and without a hitch every time.
- Important data from my desktop version was available to me on my phone, just as I expected.
- Everything looked pretty much as good as it does on my computer, very cool.
Cons -
- Not all desktop features are available on the ‘portable’ version.
- Navigation was sometimes tedious.
When tapping on a library folder you view a book list. Tapping an individual book shows the data that you had entered for that particular book. It has a cover-art button and a detail button to view additional info for that book. To browse to the next or previous book in your list (in all views), you need to back out to your main list and tap the next book to view the information for that book. A ‘finger-swipe’ to move to the next or previous book in your collection, from any view, would feel more natural than going back and forth to the main list to select each book.
Pocketpedia is not a bad app by any means, it is well designed, looks great, and intuitive to use. And it’s very convenient to have my book data handy when book shopping, essentially what I was looking for. But for the $4 price, I found it lacking some bang for the buck.
